Tart and breezy, very drinkable alone or with appetizers. Lacks character otherwise, like a pale cousin of Gewurztraminer. Worth buying if you can find it at a larger retailer or importer.

As with anything from Hugel & Fils, it’s a superb and unbeatable Alsatian treat. Longer review coming soon.

Mediocre zin will pair nice with a meaty plate but don’t expect much if drinking it by itself. OK but not memorable.

Powerfully big nose would make Adrian Brody jealous: damp and farmland and fruit telegraph a wild cup to follow. In the mouth it’s more subdued and mature; soft tannins accent a medium dry blend of dark berries and the a hint of chocolate. Lack of finish keeps...

Lacking minerals like a diamond mine made of marshmallows. Surprisingly bad. Worst NZ SB I’ve tasted… ever.

I continue to be disappointed by the bottles coming from this producer. Lacking character, this drinks like a far cheaper imitation of an NZ SB,and not like the real deal. Yes it’s tangy and has some minerality but the overall experience is flat and dull. Tastes...

Hint of licorice and basement must but quickly drowned out by the fruit. Paired OK with a blackened steak but was quickly forgotten. Not bad, just not memorable.

Syrupy texture telegraphs sugar that never arrives. That’s fine, because as a result it’s not sweet, but also lacking much of anything else. Not much nose, but on the tongue it’s light apple and pear. That gooey mouthfeel just didn’t work for...

Sea salt, lemon and tangy fruit make this a fantastic glass. Not sweet and pairs well with fish or spicy crab cakes, but drinks well on its own. Best Australian Sauv-blanc I’ve tasted yet. A tiny lack of finish keeps this from five stars, but its a near...

Deep honey color with slight fizz in the glass, and just enough sugar to call this a sweet wine, but not a bit more. Delicious and another great example of the breed.

Fantastic duo, refreshing but not one of those light fancies that disappears quickly. Long finish adds great fun when pairing with different plates, but drinks equally well on its own. Not too sweet and slightly acidic, with hints of lemon and a back end of carmel....

Not tasted under ideal conditions, so take this review with a grain of salt. Lacking character and depth, but with hints of greatness beneath. Will re-rate under better tasting conditions.

This one is popular, and it appears on nearly every shelf imaginable. Not sure why, either. Too fruity for my tastes. Like the 50-Foot Woman bent down and squirted an unripe vineyard in your mouth.

A bit jammy on the nose but some spice in the fruit palate belays any fear that this will be an overripe mess. Very high alcohol content at 14+, so don’t get crazy with it. High acidity as well but nice fruit balances it out somewhat. Worth it if you don’t...

OK, let’s get htis out of the way: Cooper’s Hawk runs a restaurant chain that features its own wines. That will turn off the snobs, but damn, the wines are good. “Lux” is fantastic and complex for the otherwise boring Chardonnay breed. Readers...

Not sure what the fuck they are on about with the HD branding, but it’s definitely marketing itself as anything but a traditionally-superb Mosel riesling. And the bottle delivers exactly that: something else entirely. Slightly subpar Mosel reez, hints of spice...

Nautical branded sauvignon blanc should have a nautical theme in the glass, invoking sea air, salt lemons and minerals. This South African SB doesn’t. It’s pleasant enough, but floral notes outweigh any of the usual SB tones you’d get from New...

Dry for sure, but that’s often to be expected with NZ SBs. This one is high in mineral but lacking in the grassy qualities of its local siblings. Somewhat of a pretender, but not bad.

Another overlooked wonder. Fruity without being sweet, and a nice long finish and a hint of spice.

Pale yellow green color practically advertises the tastes here : grass, lemon and hints of flowers. Spectacular.

Fantastic sancerre hits all the obligatory notes :grass, cat pee, minerals, lemons and a tangy kick. Just awesome.

High tannins drive this interesting and bold malbec. On the nose there are hints of musty basement and currant, on the tongue it is all dark berry. Low sugar so feel free to pair with a bold meaty dish. A top example of the Argentinian malbec.

I love Riesling but this is a bit too apple-y for me. Still, you can’t go wrong with a German reez.

Probably grown in a lab by genetic splicing of velvet and 1980’s Sade tracks. Nearly nil tannins are the source of the “soft” claims, but leaves this lacking some punch. Regardless, it’s fantastic. Black cherry, with hints of tobacco and musty...

Rich berries with a hint of cinnamon (just a hint, don’t worry) make this a wonderful pinot. Short finish keeps this from a higher score. Medium tannins keep it smoove baby. A lush little delight.
