The Seeker – Sauvignon Blanc – New Zealand – 2015
Pale yellow green color practically advertises the tastes here : grass, lemon and hints of flowers. Spectacular.
Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Les Baronnes Blanc – France – 2014
Fantastic sancerre hits all the obligatory notes :grass, cat pee, minerals, lemons and a tangy kick. Just awesome.
Catena Zapata Angélica Zapata Malbec Alta – Argentina – 2012
High tannins drive this interesting and bold malbec. On the nose there are hints of musty basement and currant, on the tongue it is all dark berry. Low sugar so feel free to pair with a bold meaty dish. A top example of the Argentinian malbec.
Joh. Jos. Prüm Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett – Germany – 2012
I love Riesling but this is a bit too apple-y for me. Still, you can’t go wrong with a German reez.
Ménage à Trois Silk Soft Red Blend – California – 2015
Probably grown in a lab by genetic splicing of velvet and 1980’s Sade tracks. Nearly nil tannins are the source of the “soft” claims, but leaves this lacking some punch. Regardless, it’s fantastic. Black cherry, with hints of tobacco and musty basement. Recommended for smooth operators.
Siduri – Pinot Noir – Oregon – 2014
Rich berries with a hint of cinnamon (just a hint, don’t worry) make this a wonderful pinot. Short finish keeps this from a higher score. Medium tannins keep it smoove baby. A lush little delight.
Pio Cesare Gavi – Cortese – Italy – 2013
Semi sweet and lightly fizzy, paired well with a mild chicken blt panini, but would drink easily as well solo. Don’t serve it with dessert. Very lively and fun, with honeysuckle and faint apple notes.
Pazo de Galegos Premium Selection Albariño – Spain – 2015
Tangy with some citrus but otherwise lacking any real zing. Was served too cold which likely impacted on its flavors.
Craggy Range Te Muna Road Vineyard – Sauvignon Blanc – New Zealand – 2014
Potent nose that’s a bit too grassy, this doesn’t have enough fruit to balance the typical NZ sting. Surprisingly off considering the pedigree.
Lindeman’s Bin 99 Pinot Noir – Australia – 2015
A glass of wine-flavored meh.
