Quick Reviews
Laurenz V. Friendly – Grüner Veltliner – Austria – 2014
Slightly fizzy and very bright, this makes an exciting entrance and shows long legs. Imagine a sexy redhead cabaret dancer. Strong finish of green apple.
Terrazas de los Andes Altos del Plata – Malbec – Argentina – 2014
Smells like sweet port. Seriously. I thought they poured the wrong wine. On the tongue, though, it’s only slightly sweet but jammy. Zero finish, like a bad date that ends early with someone who couldn’t care less what you think.
Frescobaldi Rèmole Toscana – Cabernet Sauvignon / Sangiovese – Italy – 2014
Boldly labeled, but dull and disappointing. So basically M. Night Shyamalan in wine form.
Vigneti del Salento – Primitivo I Muri – Italy
A tad too jammy for my tastes but otherwise silky and opulent. A long finish filled with berries this one will please those who like a sweater Italian. Just not my style.
Seven Daughters Moscato – California – 2014
Subtle. This is sweet without being sugary, with an almost creamy texture that leans toward a tokay. Flowers are dominant here and yet it’s not over perfumy. Very nice.
Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red – Napa – 2014
Only the second 5 star wine of 2017, this knockout proves yet again that the mad scientists of Napa are the world’s Kings of red blends. Oozing chocolate and dark cherry, this is a gooey glass of horny passion that earns your last. With legs like this you will swear each glass is a date with Raquel Welch.
Absolutely fantastic!
Long form review coming soon.
Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc – New Zealand – 2016
Underwhelming and overhyped. Lacking nearly every quality of sauvignon blanc, you would be right for confusing this with cheap pinot grigio.
Drylands Sauvignon Blanc – New Zealand – 2015
Mineraly the way it should be but lacking some grassy qualities of the best NZ essbies. Still quite nice, just pair with lamb, duck or salmon to enjoy it more.
Campanile Pinot Grigio Friuli Grave – Italy – 2014
Bland and vacuous like a speech on education policy by a bored septuagenarian senator.
Gardet Premier Cru Brut Champagne – France
Lovely, dry with a long finish. Basically Downtown Abbey in champagne form.
